Ford’s New Transit Van Donation Program Is Improving Oral Health In Detroit Michigan

Over the years, Ford has prioritized giving back to local communities, most recently supporting Latina entrepreneurs impacted by COVID-19 and providing scholarships to minorities. In March, Ford announced it would launch the Motor City Kares Giveaway to give one dentist the chance to win a $150,000 Ford Transit mobile dentistry office to help families living in low-income areas. Now, a new Ford Transit van donation program has gifted a mobile dentist office to two minority-led Michigan dental health providers.

Teaming up with Delta Dental and Kare Mobile to equip its mobile dental clinics, the Ford Transit van donation program aims to provide high-quality, affordable dental care for those in Southwest Detroit. Hygiene On Wheels was the first to receive a donated Ford Transit. Deanna Alexander, a registered dental hygienist, founded the organization in 2008. Alexandar has provided dental care and education for underserved communities since 2008. Michigan’s most prominent non-profit dental service provider, My Community Dental Center (MCDC), received the second Transit van. Founded in 2006, MCDC currently has 34 locations across the state.
